Gin & Tonic

Overview

Agave doesn’t get a ton of love during the holidays (including on this website).  This drink is here to change that.  If you’re thinking - hey, this is just Tom’s Port of Call but with tequila - well, you’re right!  And let that be a lesson to you that new cocktails don’t always have to come from new ideas - they just have to be delicious, which this definitely is.

This recipe is technically a hybrid of a Margarita and the Port of Call, and a rare Margarita variation where I keep the Cointreau/orange liqueur in - unlike Strawberry and Watermelon versions.  Here, the orange supports the cinnamon and cranberry flavors and ties the whole drink together.

Unsweetened cranberry juice such as Just Cranberry is best in this recipe. It helps to dry out the drink and brings more tart cranberry flavor, plus if give the cocktail a gorgeous magenta hue. But if you just have Ocean Spray in stock, don’t let that stop you from making this recipe.  You might just want to add an extra dash to balance the drink out.  This is great paired with some turkey tacos!

Recipe

  • 2 oz blanco tequila

  • ½ oz Cointreau

  • ½ oz lime juice

  • ½ oz unsweetened cranberry juice (such as Just Cranberry)

  • ½ oz cinnamon syrup

Combine ingredients in a shaker, fill with ice.  Shake for 8 seconds and strain into a salt-rimmed (optional) rocks glass over fresh ice, or serve straight up if you prefer. Garnish with a watermelon slice.
